Idaho State Police say a wrong-way driver was killed and a semi truck driver was airlifted to the hospital after a fiery crash on Interstate 84 early Monday morning east of Mountain Home.

Wrong Way Pickup Collides With Semi Truck on I-84 East of Mountain Home, Idaho

According to a news release from Idaho State Police, the crash happened around 1:20 a.m. on Monday, November 17, in the westbound lanes of I-84 near mile marker 102 in Elmore County.

Troopers say a 2017 Dodge Ram 2500 was heading east in the westbound lanes when it ran head-on into a westbound semi truck and trailer. Both vehicles burst into flames on impact and were quickly engulfed in flames

One Driver Killed, One Airlifted

The driver of the Dodge was a 35-year-old man from McGregor, Texas. He died from his injuries at the scene.

The semi driver was a 34-year-old man from Riverside, California. He was taken by air ambulance to a local hospital. Idaho State Police hasn’t released any new details about his condition.

Westbound Lanes Blocked For Hours

Both westbound lanes of I-84 were blocked for about six and a half hours while emergency crews worked the scene, put out the fire, and cleared debris. The left lane remained closed as of the time of the release.

Drivers are being asked to call 511 or visit 511.idaho.gov for the latest updates on lane closures in the area.
