Idaho is really living up to the ‘erratic weather’ personality we’ve come to expect. The Gem State is swinging from sunny and nearly 90 degrees last weekend to the low 50s and possible snow this weekend.

Because of the weather change, many Idaho homeowners may not be ready for the unexpected freeze that could hit this weekend, and being unprepared for a freeze when you own a home can be disastrous.

Things Every Idaho Homeowner Should Do Before the First Hard Freeze This Weekend

While we’ve been enjoying 80-degree days for the last week, many of us may have forgotten that it’s fall and winter is on the way. Well, Mother Nature is about to give us a solid reminder. This weekend we could get some snowflakes and our first hard freeze, and if you haven’t prepped your home, you could wake up on Sunday to some expensive damage.

But there is still time to get ready. There are two things you can do today that will save you a massive headache, and they both have to do with water.

  • Disconnect outdoor hoses and install foam covers over the faucets.
  • Blow out your sprinklers.

Both of these actions can save you from broken pipes and expensive water damage or sprinkler system repairs.

Other things that should be on your mind as winter approaches are the condition of your furnace, the tires on your car, and exposed pipes in garages and crawlspaces.
