Canyon County Safety Officials say a third mosquito trap tested positive for the West Nile Virus. The trap was collected Friday in Western Canyon County near the Oregon Border. This is the time of year that West Nile can strike humans and pets.Officials state that there is an elevated number of disease-carrying mosquitoes west of Caldwell. Going outside for work or fun? The Canyon County Mosquito Abatement District recommends the following guidelines called the "Ds."

1.Drain any standing water on your property that may cause mosquitoes and remember do not over irrigate.

2 Dawn and Dusk are times to avoid outdoors.

3.Dress appropriately by wearing long sleeve shirts and long pants when outdoors.

4.Defend yourself by using an insect repellent.

5.Door and window screens should be in good conditions to prevent mosquitoes from entering your home.

6.District personnel are here to help address mosquito problems you may be experiencing.
