Today is the one day of the year that we honor fathers.  Is the day  more than a boom for tie salesman, grill masters, and hardware stores?

To Dad,

Thank you for always being there, I know it sounds cliche, however when we always needed you, you were there.  And if you weren't, the tough lessons you taught us, were there to reinforce the right beliefs.  When I think of what is a Dad, I always, remember the scene from the little rascals where the Dad, tells his son, right before he spanks him, son this is going to hurt me, more than it hurts you.'

Your sacrifices haven't gone unnoticed.  It's because you chose to spend hours going to night school, working extra jobs, coaching teams, volunteering at bake sales, working at a bad job, spending extra on us at your expense, and other unknown sacrifices that has allowed us a chance to live our dreams, raise a family or make a difference.  I hope that you know you cast a big shadow.  One that is impossible to match or eclipse.  Our best chance to honor your example is to follow in your footsteps.

The older we get, the wiser our parents and especially our Dads become.  He's the one who had to be the bad guy.  The one who was there to pick us back up from a fall.  Who believed in us when others doubted we could live our dreams.  So to new Dads and old, from all of your sons and daughters, near and far, have no fear, this day is for you.  Don't worry about the tie salesman.  There's always a two for one special. However we all have only one Dad.  Happy Father's Day.
