The Treasure Valley is a relatively safe place when it comes to wildlife – we don’t have to worry about big game wandering into our neighborhoods (for the most part) on a regular basis.

However, when it comes to trails that we love to hike or places we frequent like the Boise River Greenbelt, we have to remember that we share these spaces with a lot of other animals.

In fact, many wild animals call these places home, so we have to be wary and aware of this fact.

But more than that, we have to be prepared for how to react, in case we come across a wild animal that is particularly hostile or threatening.

Even the mildest of animals can be absolutely unpredictable – even the ones which are typically relatively safe to encounter.

So listed below are 10 wild animals that we may run into on the greenbelt or on hiking trails around town, and how we should react if the situation deems it necessary.
