The city of Nampa recently discovered an isolated section of badly deteriorated water main pipe on 2nd Street South.

City water department employees investigated and quickly determined the line was badly compromised and in need of immediate repair. The discovery of the deteriorated water line is positive in the long-run as it means the city won’t be faced with an emergency road repair in the future, but also means the project may experience a delay while crews replace the pipe.

“We are appreciative of the community’s support and patience through this process. We are committed to completing the improvements to 2nd and 3rd Streets South as quickly as possible,” said Assistant City Engineer Jeff Barnes.

The project has been anticipated to be completed by late August, however, the work to replace the water main could take up to two weeks to complete and may delay repaving of 2nd Street South.

The replacement of the water line will not affect work on 3rd Street South. Crews started to pave the roadway between 16th Avenue South and 12th Avenue South this week.

Work on the project includes upgrading underground utilities and installing sidewalks and corners to fit Downtown Historic Streetscape Standards and to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Access to businesses is open during construction.

The contractor for the $2.8 million project is Idaho Materials and Construction of Nampa.
