If the commercialization of Christmas is wearing on you, some Boise groups will get together next week and give you the chance to put some church back in it with the annual Downtown Boise Church Walk.

The anticipation of Christmas is so much fun, especially for kids, and even as an adult the excitement leading up to Christmas might be the best part.  We soak up the lights and the music and the parties for a month, and then boom.  It's over."  My 8-year old said to me the other day in stressed-out-drama voice, "Maaammaaa, I don't even want Christmas to come, because then it will END."   Girl, I KNOW it.  Wanna help Mama put away the decorations?  Ugh.

Well, let's do this.  This event is coming up the day after Christmas, and it'll stretch out Christmas a little longer.   The Downtown Boise Church Walk is coming up Tuesday, December 26th, and it's hosted by The Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist at 807 N 8th St, Boise, Idaho 83702

Between 3 and 5:30pm that day we're all invited out to take a self-guided tour of six North End churches: Capitol City Christian, First Presbyterian, Immanuel Lutheran, St. John's Roman Catholic Cathedral, St. Michael's Episcopal Cathedral and First United Methodist.

Boise Weekly says they'll all be decked out with Christmas ornaments and they'll have music going too.  It's come-and-go, in an open house format, and then it's back to St. John's for a Christmas sing-a-long starting at 5:30 and running until 6.

My family usually goes to a Christmas Eve service every year, but this year we've got scheduling problems and we can't be together until the 26th.  Ugh again.  And also perfect!  The church walk might be just the thing for blended families and slightly scattered families like mine, that have to sync up travel dates and custody drop-offs, and end up with a belated celebration.

No matter when Christmas happens for you, I hope it's a meaningful one.  Merry Christmas.
