The Democrats have made bold move in the Culture Wars that could play a huge role in the upcoming 2020 national election.  In a move that will have the worlds of sports, news, politics, and water cooler buzzing about who can and can't participate in sports.  Welcom to the Gender Wars.

The House has civil rights legislation extending protections against gender and orientation discrimination.  The 236-173 vote amends the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to prohibit both private and public sector discrimination.  The bill also makes clear that access to locker and dressing rooms can't be denied on the same grounds, the New York Times reports.

Now that the bill has passed the House of Representatives, it will move on to the Senate.  Unlike the House, the Senate is controlled by Republicans who have a very different view of gender and sports.  Most political experts believe the Senate will not allow the bill out of committee or a vote on the Senate Floor.  If it did pass both houses of Congress the bill would be most likely vetoed by President Donald Trump.

Look for this issue to be a topic on talk radio and the cable talk shows.  Critics of House Democrats will charge them with pandering to special interests instead of working on other issues like healthcare and infrastructure.  Republicans will bring this up as one of many reasons why they need to retake the House in 2020.
