Brass knuckles have been illegal in most states across the country. One state that has a larger than life reputation has said it's okay to carry them legally.
It's now legal to carry brass knuckles, defensive key chains, clubs and other self-defense items in Texas.Governor Greg Abbott on Friday approved HB 446 after it had been carried unanimously in the state's House of Representatives and Senate. The bill amends a previous law to remove "knuckles" from a group of banned weapons.
Texas Penal Code defines "knuckles" as "any instrument that consists of finger rings or guards made of a hard substance and that is designed, made, or adapted for the purpose of inflicting serious bodily injury or death by striking a person with a fist enclosed in the knuckles."Sponsors of the bill argued that weapons falling under the "knuckles" heading shouldn't be prohibited because they're used by people to defend themselves.
The move has caused a reaction from various civil liberty groups who believe these weapons should continue being banned. Several legal scholars believe that this lawsuits will be filed to challenge the legalization of brass knuckles in the Lone Star State.
Do you agree with the bill's sponsors? Or do you feel like we're moving backward? Would you be in favor of other states legalizing brass knuckles? Or do you believe they're too deadly to be allowed on the streets?
