Mass Shooting at California Bar Kills 12 Mostly Young Country Fans
How are we waking up to news like this again?! When is it ever going to stop?! 12 people are dead this morning. Most of them young college students who loved country music, and a sheriffs deputy who was getting ready to retire. Here's what happened.
A gunman, now identified as 28-year-old David Long, a U.S. Marine Corps. veteran, burst into Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks, California at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, opened fire and threw smoke bombs to take the attention away from himself.
12 people confirmed dead are in addition to the gunman. It is believed the shooter took his own life. Most of the victims were young college students, along with Ventura County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Ron Helus, who tried to come to the rescue.
Since it was college night at the bar, people as young as 18-years-old were allowed in. According to msn.com some of the victims had survived the Route 91 Harvest Festival mass shooting in Las Vegas last year.
There are reports of people using chairs to break windows to escape, hiding in bathrooms, and in the attic.
A motive has not been discovered. The weapon used was a handgun. The number of those injured is expected to rise and a hotline has been set up for those seeking to find out information about their loved ones at (805) 465-6650.
Our continued thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved and affected by this horrific tragedy. There truly are no words for the sadness this brings our hearts.
