Former President Barack Obama is back in the public arena. One of the great regrets of the 44th president was that his administration failed to pass gun control legislation. Well, he's back and has a lot to say about Americans and guns.
Former President Barack Obama says U.S. gun laws "don't make much sense," noting, "anybody can buy any weapon any time." The ex-Commander-in-Chief's comments were made in Brazil, just one day before a lone gunman killed 11 people and injured six in Virginia Beach. Many critics of the former president did not appreciate his criticism of Americans while in a foreign country.
"Such shootings have become a common occurrence in the U.S. because guns have become easy to obtain," Obama said. "They can buy it over the Internet -- they can buy machine guns," Obama told the Brazilian audience. "And for me, having to speak to parents who have lost a child, just two days or a day after it had happened ... I couldn’t even promise them that we would change the law so this didn’t happen to somebody else’s children." Does anyone agree with Obama? Or do you believe outlawing guns would mean only bad guys have them?
Expect the Democrats in Congress, especially in the House of Representatives, to continue to push a new assault weapons ban. No word from former Vice President Joe Biden on his Obama's comments.
