Mark Fitzpatrick has investigated possible child care fraud, run for governor, and served beer at his bar, Old State Saloon. He has put the building up for sale for $ 2.4 million. Want the liquor license? That’s an extra $500,000. The name Old State Saloon is not part of the sale, but it could be.

While most Idaho bars focused on entertainment, the Old State Saloon, led by Mr. Fitzpatrick, served as the epicenter of the state’s cultural wars. The owner and the bar became famous worldwide by declaring “Heterosexual Awesomeness Month” during the Gay Pride month of June.

A Look Inside The Old State Saloon

We had a chance to visit the bar and here are the photos of what it looks like inside this facility that has captured the attention of both the state and the nation.

Political Reaction From Both Sides

Liberals denounced the move, while Conservatives applauded it. The bar became an events center hosting national political podcast hosts along with other unique events. The Old State is located in Eagle on one of the most attractive pieces of commercial real estate in the Gem State.

Old State Saloon Owner Explains Why The End Is Near

The bar opened up in early 2023 and was one of the more popular spots in Eagle before Mr. Fitzpatrick began his public campaigns.  He explains why it's time for him to sell in a statement from the bar's website:

"When you speak truth that the Machine cannot tolerate, and when that Machine realizes it cannot buy you, blackmail you, intimidate you, or control you, it eventually turns to every other tool at its disposal.

I have people I am responsible for before myself: my family, my employees, my customers, and the people who have stood beside Old State Saloon.

I have made the decision to put Old State Saloon on the market rather than allow those people, or this business, to be used as leverage against me."

Challenges of Being Political in Idaho

Every local business owner will tell you that everyday is a challenge. For years, Mr. Fitzpatrick has served as a business owner, reporter, promoter, podcaster, along with many other hats. It's difficult to do one of those, never mind trying to balance all of those tasks.

Time to Cash Out?

Although some folks may see this as a sign of Mr. Fitzpatrick not being successful, there is another more lucrative reason for this sale. Idaho is booming. More money from outsiders who want to own a part of the Gem State means property along with home values are at an all time high.

The sale could be the result of a business decision to collect the most profit before there is a downturn in the market. We'll continue to monitor and update this story as it develops.
