While some members of Congress were preparing to go home under the impression that a government shut down had been avoided, they are now scrambling to prevent Friday's deadline to fund the government.

The president told House Republicans, according to CNBC, that he will not sign a continuing resolution without funding for the border wall. House Republicans are now working to try to find the language and the votes to get the deal passed. If a continuing resolution is not given, The government will run out of money as of midnight tonight.

The president had been scheduled to leave for Mara Largo for a two-week vacation celebrating Christmas. Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer continue to criticize President Trump.

The new Congress will address the looming questions concerning the funding of the government and border security once they are sworn in.
